As such, the Athenians while originally having provided some relief with water and other resources, then retreated so as to not become involved in the inner-conflict of the time.
Once having gone home and regrouped, the Greeks returned to the war, sailed to Sestos and captured the land and people of the region. Once the war had ended, a large number of artists including painters and sculptors began creating art based on the culture and war during the period. As such, while there were no real winners in what was a very bloody and lengthy war, the art and culture which came out of the period still amazes, enlightens and entertains people all over the world.
